Distance to this yurt: On September 15th the US Forest Service locks the gate just off Highway 21 to protect wildlife. You cannot drive to Skyline yurt after September 15th. This gate is open when the trails are covered with snow (usually early December and kept open until September 15th
When the snow is gone from the Skyline/Summit Trails (usually mid May through September 15th) you can drive 2.3 miles (one way) with 650 ft of elevation gain to the summer parking area. You will then park off the road before the gate and hike another 500 yards to the yurt. A high clearance vehicle is recommended.
Starting on September 15th until the snow is gone from Skyline/Summit Trails (usually mid May through September 15th) You will park in the Gold Fork Park N Ski parking area, hike or snowshoe 2.1 miles (one way) with 650 ft elevation gain to the yurt.
